ZT FIGHT SKOOL - NEWS

It has been 10 days since my knee operation…

August 4th, 2012 - ZT Fightskool

It has been 10 days since my knee operation and although I’m getting a bit bored of doing wheel chair workouts I am getting more bored of my own voice repeating the same story of how it happened. It is funny how you always miss the things you take for granted, I would do anything to be able to go for a nice long run or even demonstrate a squat but although I miss these little things I feel happier knowing that I now have an attached ACL and everyday from this day on I’m getting nearer to wrestling and sparring again :-)

So, considering this little set back I set myself a little challenge (see last weeks blog) of tightening my belt and I have to say that even though I haven’t managed any lower body training like running squats dead lifts  I have only gone from 5.6% to 5.9% in BodyFat. So my theory of just consume just short of what calories you need and burn a bit more in training and you will see the benefits in no time.

I am happy to announce that the SGUT App will be launched very soon, this is going to give everyone the chance to follow a structured training and eating plan with guaranteed results and the best thing is my 30 day challenge is completely FREE!!.

The Fight Skool has got even better, with the new Boxing Ring. This is a no where to hide ring at 12ft you really have to work your angles and master the art of slipping from a close range or in the pocket.

Considering the success that the Brits are having with their medal haul and in true Olympic fashion we have decided to give everyone a free trial in the art of Olympic Freestyle Wrestling with coach Dani Vlad…please book in for this at reception.

Well, done goes out to my #SGUT client Zoe Urben who has lost 6% in BodyFat in the last 7 weeks this is what hard work and determination can give you, she is also a full time mother with a job, so people I have to ask “what’s your excuse”?

Anyway guys & girls keep training hard!

Time to tighten my belt

July 28th, 2012 - ZT Fightskool

I can feel myself getting into a position that a lot of clients come to me with, unwanted weight gain.

My usual (Pre-Op) lifestyle of training with an average Kcal burn of 1000 and running around like a blue arse fly allowed me to eat pretty much whatever i like (within reason) although my diet is clean (no Junk, Carbs only where needed etc.) I could rock a sub 6% body fat..

Well the situation has changed as I sit here with my leg elevated with a pack of ice on it from a post ACL reconstruction operation I have realised that A) I will not be in a position to run around like a blue arse fly, or B) burn the the kind of Kcals my body is used to in my SGUT session unless I sit on the arm trainer for 2hrs which is not only as boring as hell  but due to work commitments is not possible, So, this only leaves me with one option…..

Diet and SGUT Supps = Omega 3′s Fat Burners!!!!

Yep, thats right I have now addressed what Calories I will burn throughout the day (2550 kcal’s) through not being as mobile as before and allowed myself to consume 2200 so there is a 300 Kcal deficit per day and if I train on the Arm bike for 30min per day this will also burn 400 kcal’s so that is 700 kcal’s per day so over the next month I should be able to maintain a low body fat reading as if my theory is correct I would have burned 6 lb of FAT So i’ll be posting regular Body fat readings from my Myzone & Tanita system at ZT Fitness.

Lastly guys,

Remember the point is how many unused calories is what’s important here. Remember that you’re burning calories just sitting around- about 80 an hour or so. You burn at least 1000 calories in a day just breathing, thinking and so on.

A pound of fat contains roughly 3200 calories. So you’d have to consume 3200 calories beyond what you burn in a day to gain a pound of fat. Conversely, you’d need to burn 3200 calories more than you consume to lose a pound of fat. That may seem like a lot, but realize that an extra hundred calories a day, everyday, over the course of a lifetime can really add up, a pound a month, 12 pounds a year.

One silly moment…

July 25th, 2012 - ZT Fightskool

Over my years I have broken lots go bones but never any serious ligament injuries so I kind of thought I was un touchable. Well, on a Motocross training weekend I was practising some double jumps with some of the expert riders and I got it all wrong and stacked the bike!! So this is how my knee injury came about.

I managed to get the hospital the next day and they x rayed it, I said it needs a scan but they said Nah, you’re all right. Well, I know my body and it felt like I had torn something, so I popped upstairs to see Troy at 3DFC and he said you need a scan, so we booked it in and a week later it had been diagnosed as a complete ACL rupture, so thanks Hampshire hospital I did need a scan and also surgery :-) .

So with my results, I booked in to see the highly recommended Robin Turner (Knee Surgeon at the Nuffeild) who said if you can wait 6 week I’ll put your Surgery through the NHS which was great news as I was prepared for a £4000 bill for the operation also this time also fitted in perfectly as we had a holiday booked and it would have been a bitch rehabilitating over there.

So, 6 weeks and one holiday later I lay here I have to say the NHS have done me proud the service has been amazing and the Orthapedic unit in the Princess Royal is brand new so its really happy days. But the road back to me nailing 18m 5k and sparring the likes of Ryan White, Kenshiro, Laura, and Wrestling Coach Dani Vlad are quite a way away, but at least I now know I have a attached ACL and everyday I will get stronger..

The last point I would like to make is treat your body with respect as that one silly moment of me thinking I was Travis Pestrana (1st guy to nail a double backflip on a MX bike) has cost me dearly and a lot of time on the Top-XT (hand bike) and working my muscle ups and ring dips, see I’ve even planned my #SGUT :-)

See you in the gym…

A great time away in Majorca

July 18th, 2012 - ZT Fightskool

I have had a great time in Majorca with the family and if you have seen my pictures on Instagram you will understand why. This place is a beautiful place, not like the picture I had painted in my mind (Geordie Shore extras in ShagaLuf) but a place hat has some really cool coves and beaches.

Whilst I have been here I have made the most of my time having fun with the kids and getting some good SGUT in before my knee operation next week, the operation is a full ACL reconstruction that involves a graft from my hamstring to re attach the ACL so this will leave me on crutches for a few weeks and 6 weeks in a knee brace, but at the end it will be good to go, so I can get back on the mats and pick up some Vlad Wrestling and some MMA sparring with the Great White.

This weekend in the Kids Fit Skool my good friends Lee & Karen have organised a Pepa Pig day, this is open to everyone and it only cost £5 entry and includes snacks for the little one, so come down with your child and meet Pepa and have some fun playing some cool games. There is even a raffle to win a cool Pepa Pig prize :-)

I would like to wish Kenny good luck with his Spartan Race on Sunday which is a fund raiser for the Martlets hospice.. Good luck guys.

Anyway guys I’m back next week so I’ll see you all in ZT soon..

Keep training hard!

Our 25th ZT Fight Night show was a cracker!

July 3rd, 2012 - ZT Fightskool

This weekend we had our 25th ZT Fight Night show. And this was a cracker!! Over the years we have had had some of the UK’s best fighters fighting on the show and although this time we didn’t have any top ten ranked fighters it was one of the best shows we have done. This is because, for me, this is where fighting is wholesome, and what i mean by that is there is hardly any of the promoter politics involved firstly its not about money, or about the fighter padding out their record, it’s about going back to the gladiator days of seeing who has the biggest set, or, the more skill and the toughest chin and to be honest I was very impressed with all the ZT guys who stepped up Aftab, Johnny, Ben, Glen, James, Jake, Mantas, Ash, Oli you all did me, Ryan and Kenny proud and represented ZT Fight Skool with honour.

I would like to thank New Wave Academy, 1st Generation, Mad Hatters, Ipon MMA and Garry Bond who making the show run smoothly by providing us with great match ups. And although I said “Never Again” I definitely think we will be back for a Christmas ZT Fight Night
