Hey Guys.

Well a lot has happening at ZT recently. We have gained a new Sales & Marketing Manager – Shane Mosses, who left a very well known big gym to come and join the ZT massive and work alongside Kimi. With all the rain that we have had lately it has been a great time for the Mums to test out the Baby room in the Kids Fit Skool. Even Jersey has had some walking practise in the matted room with the KFS girls and she has taken 5 steps without sore knees. But the bad thing about this rain is that Boston hasn’t managed to race in the Mid Sussex Championships 3rd round due to every meet being cancelled down to floods. But hopefully Oxshot on the 20th will be on and he can test out his new sponsored bike that was supplied by Private line 88, Danny Ives, ZT Fight Skool & Boretech. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed for some dry days.

ZT Fitness, in the gym we have decided that we are going to have a refurbish. This will mean us extending the Fight Skool and redesigning the shower areas and we will also be looking at what gets used vs what doesn’t. So please take the time to express your opinion on the comment cards in reception. This time around we will be doing this in the Summer and creating an outdoor training area in either Hove Park or the Rec as we will need to close for a week so we can crash through the work in the quickest time possible. So please bare with us.

ZT Fight Skool has been buzzing recently. This down to the Summer ZT show that we are holding on the 30th June at the Hove town hall. All the guys that you see day 2 day will be entering the Octagon to thrown down against some of the Souths toughest fighters. If you would like tickets get in touch at ZT.

SGUT Diet & Strength plan has had some amazing results, Lee, Laura, Craig, Joe have all been losing FAT and gaining lean muscle and are buzzing, If you want to try it out just mail me at sol@solgilbert.com and i’ll send you out the questionnaire.

Catch you all soon

After 14 straight victories including a win over Diego Sanchez, the world knew UFC welterweight John Hathaway was destined for big things.

After beginning his career with a perfect 14-0 record, Hathaway would suffer the first loss of his career to Mike Pyle at UFC 120. Nonetheless, Hathaway would bounce back in fashion, by defeating Kris McCray via split decision in his next bout.

But something happened after the McCray bout.

Hathaway vanished from competition.

After fighting three times in 2006, four times in ’07 and three times each in ’08 and ’09, Hathaway has fought just three times in nearly two years.

In fact, it’s been over 13 months since we’ve last seen him.

The missing man has been found, as the England product recently sat down with Bleacher Report to discuss his absence and upcoming bout with Pascal Krauss at UFC on FOX 3.

Garrett Derr: I understand you played rugby before entering the world ofMMA. Has your experience in that sport helped contribute to your success inside the Octagon?

John Hathaway: I had always been a physically tough kid and had played lots of rugby to a high standard. So the physicality of the sport didn’t bother me at all. I first got into MMA after watching the UFC when I was 17 years old. I loved it and my brothers and I started play fighting and attempting MMA. After a few scraps around the house, I headed down to my local MMA gym called ZT Fight Skool in Brighton and gave it a try.

I trained at ZT for my first 10 fights, under Sol Gilbert. After that, I made the move to London Shootfighters and the head coaches there Alexis Demetriades and Paul Ivens have been coaching me for all of my UFC fights.

GD: You have kind of fallen off the map since we haven’t seen you for over a year. Where have you been?

JH: I’ve not really disappeared, it’s more a case that I had to withdraw from my proposed fight on the UFC 138 card in Birmingham last year because of an illness. That wiped me out for a while but now I am absolutely great.

Honestly right now, I feel fantastic. I genuinely think this is the best shape and form I have ever been in. I’m healthy and I cannot wait for this fight.

GD: Well, we’re happy you’re back and you’ll be taking on Pascal Krauss at UFC on FOX 3. What do you know about Krauss considering he’s a fairly new fighter in the UFC?

JH: I know that Pascal is a tough guy and a well-rounded fighter. It seems like his background in the sport has been as a complete MMA fighter rather than a specialist in any one area. I imagine he is going to be comfortable with wherever the fight takes place.

I know that from what I have read recently about those people that work with him. They think he is very tough. But at the same time, I feel like I have an advantage in every area of the fight. If I didn’t feel that way, then I wouldn’t have prepared properly.

GD: So how can we expect you to win in your first fight back in a year?

JH: How will I win? Hmmm. Well, you know that move that Spock does in Star Trek? I think I’m going to try that. [laughing]

GD: I know you’ve picked your walk-out music for this fight already and you’re keeping it a secret. Any chance you can give us the inside to what it will be?

JH: The music is top secret. I’m afraid to say. [laughing]

GD: What’s been the most memorable moment of your career so far? How has it changed you?

JH: It has to be the win over Diego Sanchez. It was a real step up for me and it really helped me jump up the rankings. The fight just went very much like what I had planned.

I am sure that as long as I keep beating fighters like him and the ones the UFC puts in front of me, then it is only a matter of time before I get a title shot. One day I will become champion. I’m patient and I’ll take it one fight at a time. But I plan on winning.

GD: In closing, who would you like to thank?

JH: I’d like to thank my teammates and coaches at London Shootfighters. The whole team there is fantastic. I’d also like to thank D.D. Deane at Physiques Nutrition for helping me with my diet and weight cut, CNP Professional for the supplements that they provide me with and finally RYU clothing for sponsoring my walk-out clothing.

Also thanks to my fans and supporters and the readers of Bleacher Report.

So, recently I have had a few if my members and clients ask about how they can shift a bit of stubborn body fat without spending more time in the gym and the 1st thing I did was sit down and ask them how many calories do they think they consume in a day, virtually all of them didn’t have a clue so I sat down with them and showed them what they burn through they’re training and doing their day to day duties and structure a eating plan that was -500 Kcals under there BMR (Calorie allowance) and have them eating small meals every 3 hrs and up’d there water to 3 litres a day.

And after 7 days they have averaged a loss of 2% body fat and increased they’re lean muscle (which will burn more fat throughout the day) What is the plan I put them on? It’s a combination of my Strength & Cardio plan called Tri-Plex and the SGUT Nutrition complete plan and a very handy APP called ” My Fitness Pal” which tells you how many Kcals you gave left in the bank . this recipe (no pun intended) is proven and comes with a cast iron guarantee that if you stick to it you will get the body you have always thought impossible.

Here is a short explanation as to why I advise all me SGUT Clients to snack on Apple & Almonds inbetween meals.

1st up Almonds..

Almonds are considered the nut with the most nutrients, when compared ounce per ounce or calorie per calorie, and this is one of the reasons why almonds for weight loss are so useful. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans urge people to get the most nutrition possible out of the calories you eat. A 1-ounce, 164-calorie portion of almonds, or roughly a handful, is a great supply of vitamin E plus magnesium, as well as a good supply of fiber. And it provides protein, heart healthy monounsaturated fat, calcium, potassium, iron and phosphorous. BOOM!!

Next up Apple…

Apples are low in calories and together with the fiber content make them an excellent snack for curbing appetite.

The research evidence that consumption of dietary fiber helps prevent obesity is strong and the latest long term research has proved the value of dietary fiber as an addition to regular dietary therapy for obesity. Fiber intake is inversely linked to body weight as well as body fat. Also, fiber intake is inversely linked to body mass index at every level of fat intake after taking all variables into account. Adding dietary fiber typically decreases food consumption and, thus, body weight. Double BOOM!!

There’s under 3 weeks to go now until John Hathaway make his long awaited return to The Octagon against Pascal Krauss on May 5th. He answered a few questions for me about his training and preparation aswell as his thoughts on UFC: Sweden.

Hello mate, just a few questions; how’s training going?

– Training is going great, I feel like I’m in a really good place at the moment, I think people are going to see a new version of John Hathaway in the cage.

I know you’re training with Karlos vemola at London shoot, does it help training with a bigger guy?

– Training with Vemola is great; he’s a cool guy, quiet but funny. He’s cutting down to middle weight for the first time so he’s not as heavy as he has been in the past, he’s still strong as an ox though! I train with a fair few guys who are heavier weight classes, I don’t mind it because I know if I can handle their strength then I will be pretty strong against other guys in my own division.

Also does it help that you are both fighting on the same card?

– Its cool that we are both on the same card, it has created a real sense of team spirit in the gym, I mean we are pretty close normally but now the 5th of May has become a real focus for the team.

You’re fighting Pascal Krauss, do you know much about him?

– I know that Pascal Krauss is a tough guy, he’s unbeaten for one thing, it’s always tough fighting unbeaten guys, they don’t know how to lose, but its now my job to beat him. I know that he has a good background in all the phases of an MMA fight, he’s definitely a well rounded fighter and I imagine he will be comfortable wherever the fight goes. I also saw that he has been training at Roufusport so he’s been doing some work with a very good camp, I think this fight is going to be great!

You’ve had a bit of a lay off, how do you feel going into this fight?

– I’ve been out of the octagon for just over a year now and I cannot wait to get back in there! I feel very fit and healthy right now and like I said earlier I really think people are going to see a very different John Hathaway from before.

I take you watched UFC Sweden, were you impressed?

– I did watch the UFC Sweden card, I happened to know a whole lot of guys on the card. I’ve actually trained with Alexander Gustaffson, Cyrille Diabatte and Magnus Cydenblad before and I’ve done some sparring with John Maguire and I know Jason Young and Brad Pickett, I was supporting all those guys, they are all top guys and barring Magnus it was a great night for them all. I was impressed by the crowd there as well, they seemed to be a great crowd, very positive and seemed to respect all aspects of the fight, it was great to hear cheering when people passed guard or escaped a submission.

John Maguire won and is in your weight class, is that a fight you would take?

– John Maguire had a great fight; it was a top finish, very slick. That’s 2 very good showings for him in the UFC and I’m pleased for him. I’ll happily fight anyone that the UFC puts in front of me. Don’t forget that Che Mills is also in my division now as well and Dan Hardy has a fight coming up that I think he is going to win, so potentially we could have 4 British guys moving up the welterweight ladder very shortly.

Finally my trademark question; do you LOVE 2 FIGHT?

– I do love to fight; I love the time old tradition of finding out who is the best.

Thanks allot ‘Hitman’

Brighton Marathon weekend.

First things first a big well done to all the ZT Massive who took part in the Brighton Marathon SGUT Trainer Jack Laing did an amazing time of 3.48 Neil Sting wray & Lee Sullivan also nailed 3.59 I was going to enter with Katie Price but we both have injuries But, Brighton has definitely had it’s fair share of runners hitting the streets over this weekend so I dont think they missed us. But the one thing that baffles me is that most people jump into running this Long distance ” Brighton Marathon ” without giving their body the respect it deserves. Recently heat Magazine asked me why I felt Katie wasn’t ready to run in the London Marathon and I quite simply said ” At this present time her body will not cope, and this will leave a trail of injuries that will probably take a lifetime to get over”. This is because she hasn’t done the right amount preperation to get her body used to that kind of distance and considering she has a bad hip/knee injury which she got from training for the past Marathons and even though she recently she gave a good account of herself in Brighton half marathon it left her in pain for 10 days after.

But moving away from the Long Steady Distance (LSD) We have started training her body in true SGUT fashion and working on Compound Lifts ( Dead Lifts – Back Squats etc ) and combining this with shorter but higher bursts of intensity cardio ( Versa Climber – Stair Master etc ) and her body is responding well, although Leandro Pema’s body didn’t respond as well when he jumped in on her session with me the other day .
